Soraya Chemaly is a writer and activist whose work focuses on about the role of gender and sexual violence in culture, politics, religion and media. She is the Director of The Speech Project for the Women's Media Center and organizer of the Safety and Free Speech Coalition, both of which are involved in curbing online abuse and expanding women's freedom of expression. In 2013, she won the Donna Allen Award for Feminist Advocacy and the Secular Woman Feminist Activism Award. In 2014, she was named one of Elle Magazine's top 25 women to watch on Twitter. She writes regularly for TIME, The Huffington Post, Salon and speaks regularly about gender, women's rights, violence and free speech.
